It's Rodeo Time!



I love this time of year for so many reasons.  The warm air, the end of the school activities with the anticipation of upcoming summer fun, and also because it is rodeo time.  I grew up in Vernon, Texas, just 30 miles down the road from my current hometown of Quanah.  On May, 17-20th, Vernon will be celebrating their annual Santa Rosa Roundup.  If you are traveling through on Wednesday the 17th, stay for the Santa Rosa parade, then head on out to the rodeo grounds for the amazing BBQ meal provided by the local Lion's Club.  There is absolutely nothing like good ole Texas BBQ!  



After the BBQ, walk over to the Santa Rosa arena to watch the first night of rodeo action and enjoy the talent of the historic Santa Rosa Palomino Club.  These talented riders give all they have to entertain the crowd, and they never disappoint!  My little boy Brady sure couldn't take his eyes off of them!  


Rodeo is such a wonderful tradition.  I'm very nostalgic, so to go each year to the area rodeos brings back such wonderful memories of my childhood.  As I write my Hitchin' Post books, I often include these special memories.  I want my children to experience some of the same things that I did.  I want them to savor their childhood and remember a time that wasn't so rushed or stressed.  To be able to hear that good old country music play and have their minds drift back to a time that will forever bring a smile to their faces.  This is what I remember about mine and what I yearn for for them in a time of such rushing around and completely filled days.    

 In my next Hitchin' Post book, Hitch celebrates the Annual 6Bs 4th of July Rodeo and Dance, and...his five brothers come to visit.  Making these characters come to life was so much fun.  I can't wait to share my next book with you all, and I hope it proves to be a book that you will want to share with your family for generations.

Happy 4th of July!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful day full of fun and celebration on the 4th. My family certainly did. The fireworks that we watched with our family and friends in our community were amazing as usual. I love the kids faces as each firework bursts. My little Bowen was absolutely stunned when they first started, but shortly after, he got used to the noise and began falling to the ground with each pop pretending like he'd been shot. Needless to say I would catch myself watching this funny little scene more than watching the gorgeous display in the sky!  I love this time of year and I am so proud to be an American, which is one of the reasons I chose the 4th of July as the center of my next Hitchin' Post book.  Now obviously I'm not a marketing or business major or otherwise I would've had this book hot off the press and ready to purchase with a huge marketing campaign leading up to the 4th! A Sneak Preview

I wanted to share another excerpt from Hitchin' Post , this one actually being one of my favorite.  The main theme of this book, and one that I try to instill in my children daily, is that though life brings you so many ups and downs, you must always look for the good and ALWAYS be thankful.  Hitch spends much time in thought about this very subject after seeing his beloved ranch go through a drought, but he continues to find more to be thankful for.  "Hitch's favorite place so calm and serene with a little creek flowing near, is the small country church, where by the window he'll perch each Sunday morning so he can hear. He can see it from the air, that little white church, and oh, what an amazing view! The horses are running, the windmills are turning, and Hitch thinks, God must be a cowboy too! Hitchin' Post and the 6Bs' Tornado Twistin' 4th of July Celebration excerpt - Happy 4th of July!

  As the crowd looked on at the cheering cowboys, the fireworks began to light up the sky. A fiddler started playing the "Star Spangled Banner", and everyone turned to watch Old Glory fly. "I'm getting goosebumps again," said a soft voice and the brothers turned and looked at Mitch. He was holding his arm up but watching the flag, and he put his other arm around Hitch. Hitch would never forget that moment at the 6Bs' standing with his brothers and filled with joy.
